Basilique Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde

Built in the middle of the 19th century (1853-1864), the basilica is surmounted by a magnificent statue of the Virgin. The Romano-Byzantine style building contains a large number of ex-votos, some donated by sailors. The lighting has been redesigned, the crypt and a large part of the basilica's mosaics have been restored, only the work affecting the dome of the choir remains unfinished. Notre-Dame-de-la-Garde welcomes more than 2 million visitors every year!
In addition to this, you need to know more about it.
Perched 160m high, you can see the whole of the city of Marseille, the islands of Frioul and, further inland, the hills of Garlaban.
Up there, the Virgin and Child watches over the Phocaean city.
